Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that can pose a serious threat to persons who are exposed to elevated levels for extended periods of time.

It is the second leading cause of lung cancer according to the CDC.

Get it tested before you buy, and then you are in a good position to negotiate for radon remediation installation at the sellers cost.

There is also the option of you doing it yourself.  Show up at the inspection with a "First alert" radon test kit from Lowes/Home depot.  I'll help you set it up.  Two to four days later you return with a realtor and recover and mail it out.  Total cost would be about $25.
